Homemade Sweet Pie Crust

November 14, 2020 By: sisterdiy

Do you like a savory crusts with your desert pies? Me neither! If you need a homemade sweet pie crust recipe in your life, look no further. I have the ultimate single crust pie dough recipe to share with you ( Thanks to my sister Radeyah ❤️)

This sweet pie crust recipes was shared with me years ago and this is the only crust recipe that I use for my single crust pies, such as Navy Bean Pie and Butternut Squash Pie. It’s that good. It’s rich, sweet and has a soft, but slightly crunchy cookie-like texture. It is also incredibly easy to make and freezes very well.

Homemade Sweet Pie Crust

I love making this homemade sweet pie crust in my food processor because it comes together so fast. You can definitely do this with a bowl and a pastry cutter or forks just fine. When you do make this recipes, I recommend doubling it or even tripling it and freezing the extra. My husband loves to request pies at the last minute, but that’s ok! I generally have a pie crust in the freezer waiting for him to ask ?

What makes this pie crust recipe different than your traditional pie crust is the addition of an egg yolk and the use of powdered sugar. The egg yolk makes this crust rich and the powdered sugar adds a sweetness and a tenderness to the crust that resembles a soft sugar cookie.

This recipe starts with your flour, sugar and salt pulsed briefly in the food processor. Then cut in your butter, add your egg yolk and then drizzle in your water until it comes together into a ball. You can watch me make it here.

Good morning .? You always say use flour but you never say what kind of flour ? Is it self rising or all purpose? For the bean pie or the crust.

Good morning! Great question. It’s going to be all-purpose. If you prefer wheat flour I am pretty sure that would be ok to use as well. Thanks for stopping by!
