With just a handful of ingredients like flour, salt, sugar, butter, dry milk, water and yeast, you can make the most delicious loaf of homemade sandwich bread. If you have a bread machine, you can do it with ease, convenience and half of the effort. I typically make my loaf of sandwich bread in my bread machine. However, you can totally take this same recipe and make it by hand and bake it in your oven.
What I really love about the bread machine is that all you need to do is measure your ingredients and place them in the bread pan. After that, simply select the type of bread you want to make and press start. The bread machine will do the rest for you, including bake!
The model that I have is the Zojirushi and it makes a 2lb loaf. It can also make other types of bread like French bread and even quick breads and cakes. My favorite feature is the dough feature. It allows you to have the machine make the dough only so that you can ship it how you want. Therefore, this feature is great for cinnamon rolls or baguettes.
My Favorite Bread Machine Recipes
My two favorite recipes to use in my bread machine is this sandwich loaf recipe and my sweet dinner rolls recipe. With the dinner rolls recipe, I simply tell the machine to make the dough without baking it. Once the machine is done with that part, I can remove the dough and shape it how I want.

Homemade Sandwich Bread
- 320 mL water 1-1/3 cups
- 553 g bread flour 4-1/4 cups
- 4 Tbsp. sugar 48g
- 2 Tbsp. dry milk 8g
- 2 tsp. salt 10g
- 3 Tbsp. butter 35g
- 2 tsp. active dry yeast 6g
Add all of your ingredients to your bread machine pan in the order that they are listed above. Select white and then choose your crust control (Light, Medium or Dark) I choose medium. Press start!
